YEREVAN. – The President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, on Monday received, Belgian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Foreign Trade and European Affairs Didier Reynders, who is also Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CoE).

The President stressed that Armenia, being interested in the development of relations with Belgium, also underscores the discourse and cooperation with the CoE in the context of the ongoing reforms in the country. He added that Armenia is determined to continue these reforms.

Reynders, for his part, stressed that he greatly appreciates collaboration with Armenia. He noted that the Armenian-Belgian relations and the collaboration along the lines of the CoE are excellent, and it is necessary to continue efforts to further strengthen relations.

Sargsyan expressed gratitude to Reynders for the high-level CoE participation in the recent Yerevan International Social and Political Global Forum against the Crime of Genocide, and the Belgian delegation’s presence at the Armenian Genocide Centennial commemoration event. The President added that Armenia highly appreciates the Belgian Senate decision on the recognition of this genocide.

At the ensuing talk, the interlocutors discussed several matters of mutual interest. Reynders, in this context, stated that the CoE is committed to continue assisting in Armenia’s reforms.

They exchanged views also on the Nagorno-Karabakh peace talks. Didier Reynders reiterated the respective position by Belgium and the chairman of the CoE Committee of Ministers, and with respect to supporting the OSCE Minsk Group in this peace process.
