YEREVAN. – The trend of disintegration between CIS states and the Eurasian Union members will continue in the coming months, economist Ashot Yeghiazaryan said.

He explained that Russia's foreign trade turnover has reduced, and in particular in the direction of CIS countries. The Eurasian Union was one of the projects that Russia wanted to use to extend the sphere of influence.

“But, all these projects failed, and this attempt will collapse, too. Ukrainian events made Belarus and Kazakhstan doubt about membership in Eurasian Economic Union,” Yeghioazaryan said on Wednesday.

According to the expert, the Astana summit showed that Eurasian Union does not exist as such, since there is no common economic policy.

There is also uncertainty in Central Asia with Uzbekistan opposing creation of a union led by Russia, Kyrgyzstan putting forward preconditions and Tajikistan keeping certain distance because of the absence of common border with the Union. Therefore, Eurasian Union's prospects in Central Asia cannot be successful, especially taking into account China's interest in the region.
