Mayoral candidate was shot to death during a campaign rally in the Mexican state of Michoacan, El Universal newspaper reported.
A group of armed men opened fire when Enrique Hernandez, the leader of a local self-defense force, was addressing the voters in the central square. Another three people were wounded, Lenta reported.
The party confirmed the killing of Hernandez who was running for mayor in Yurecuaro.
