The European Union (EU) respects each EU Eastern Partnership program member state’s right to choose its own development path while maintaining cooperation with the EU. 

German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday stated the aforesaid speaking at the Eastern Partnership Summit being convened in the Latvian capital city of Riga, reported RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.

“We respect the decision of Armenia, which, in addition to intense negotiations with the EU, seeks closer economic cooperation with Russia, [and] the [Russia-led] Eurasian Economic Union,” the German Chancellor specifically noted.
