The President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, met on Friday in Riga, the capital city of Latvia, with the Prime Minister of Sweden, Stefan Löfven.

They discussed Armenian-Swedish bilateral relations and cooperation as well as Armenia-European Union (EU) collaboration within the framework of the EU Eastern Partnership.

The Swedish PM, noting that Armenia is an EU strategic partner in the region, welcomed the country’s policy of wishing to become a bridge between the Eurasian Union and the EU.

In terms of relations between the two states, the President of Armenia and the PM of Sweden underscored the trade and economic ties and stressed the need for bilateral work to further strengthen these ties.

As for the avenues for further strengthening Armenian-Swedish relations, Sargsyan and Löfven pointed to the activities of the two countries’ embassies that have opened in one another’s capital cities.

The interlocutors also conferred on Armenia-Sweden cooperation within the framework of international organizations. 

In addition, Serzh Sargsyan thanked the Swedish authorities for Sweden’s official participation in the Armenian Genocide Centennial commemorations that were held in April in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia.
