Scientists are planning to ship ice to the Antarctic.

They are afraid that mountain glaciers around the world are melting as a result of climate change and want to store samples of ice in a new vault in the coldest place on Earth.

The mountain glacier ice will be transferred to the Antarctic from other continents. Stored safely in a giant frozen trench, the ice cores can simply be sealed in bags 10 meters below.

According to scientists, even though global warming affects the Antarctic, too, it is the ideal place for storing any material, reported the BBC Russian Service.

Scientists point out, however, that 56 tons of ice melts in the Antarctic every year.
