YEREVAN. - Thousands of protesters against electricity price hike have carried two rubbish bins to Yerevan’s Baghramyan Avenue. The bins have been placed in front of the police chain. According to the protestors, they have brought the rubbish bins to defend themselves from the police officers. (photos)

While ago the protesters were punching on the rubbish bins to make more noise and become more hearable. At the same time, the protesters repeatedly urge the participants to refrain from throwing anything in the direction of the police officers.

The police officers have not yet reacted to the rubbish bins anyway. The tension has not been decreasing in Baghramyan Avenue for more than an hour.

It’s already the second day the protesters have to stand in Baghramyan Avenue on way to the presidential headquarters, facing the police chain standing in several rows.

They periodically scan “We are the owners of our country,” “Free, independent Armenia,” whistle and clap.

The police do not take any measures either. When the protesters had just reached Baghramyan Avenue, Yerevan Deputy Chief of Police Valery Osipyan once again attempted to reach an agreement with them, but the protestors said they are not going to enter into any contact with the police.

Heritage party MP Zaruhi Psotanjyan is also in Baghramyan Avenue. She told Armenian News – NEWS.am that merely gathering in Baghramyan Avenue and Liberty Square is not enough. “All the squares of the republic must be filled so that the police have no enough resources to apply brutal force,” Postanjyan said.
