YEREVAN. – Police have detained an activist from Baghramyan Avenue, the participants of sit-in declared during an action on Wednesday evening.

The protesters are demanding immediate release of Tigran Madoyan.

Earlier police dispersed a sit-in action against rise in electricity prices on Tuesday. Later in the day the demonstrators decided to start a new action in Baghramyan Avenue. The action continues since 7p.m. Tuesday.

Despite numerous protests, the Public Services Regulatory Commission increased the price of electricity in Armenia, and this decision will take effect on August 1. The decision, however, is expected to be followed by an increase in the prices of numerous products and services in the country.
