YEREVAN. – It is a common misconception among Armenia’s society that the increase in the price of electricity is due to the misuse—the plunder, as people say—in the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) Company.

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan stated the aforementioned at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting.

“I don’t rule out that there may have been misuse,” said the PM. “But I want to declare with full responsibility that, regardless of what kind and what amount of misuse there could have been in the company, not a penny from it has been calculated into the price [of electricity].”

As per the premier, another concern is related to the luxury spending of the ENA.

“In this case, too, I responsibly declare that, during calculation of the [electricity] price, the commission [i.e. the Public Services Regulatory Commission] has always reduced all such spending,” stated Abrahamyan.
