YEREVAN. – Armenians, who export apricots via the Stepantsminda-Larsi checkpoint on the Georgia-Russia border, called Zhamanak daily saying there is a buildup at the checkpoint as a result of reducing the 24-hour schedule, reported the daily.

“Our interlocutor, who wished to remain anonymous, complained, ‘It is an artificially created problem. And the second reason is that the Russian side of the border crossing works poorly and large queues are forming.’

“In this connection, the deputy head of the Department of Transport of the Ministry of Transport and Communication [of Armenia], Davit Melkonyan, assured us that they work with a different principle there.

‘“I assure [you] that there is no longer a buildup [there]. It’s just that there were problems there linked to the personnel, which was not enough. However, the issue has been settled,’ he said,” wrote Zhamanak.
