Orhan and Baris Okumus brothers, who had caused—by way of blackmail—the suicide of Armenian woman Narine Mkrtchyan, 21, in Istanbul, Turkey, have been sentenced to three years in prison.

A Turkish court found the brothers guilty, and on charges of “blackmail” and “breaching privacy,” reported Agos Armenian bilingual weekly of Istanbul.

The court took into account the fact that the brothers had not regretted what they had done, and therefore it did not to delay the execution of this sentence.

In 2010, Narine Mkrtchyan had moved from Armenia to Istanbul to work with her stepfather and brother. She had fallen in love with Orhan Okumus and planned to marry him. Orhan, however, had tricked Narine, slept with her, and secretly filmed Narine in the nude. Subsequently, Baris had forced Narine to sleep with him, too, threatening that otherwise he will show her naked video to her brother. Baris, after getting rejected, had shown the video to Narine’s brother, who had gotten into an argument with his sister. Afterward, Orhan and Baris had demanded money from Narine, and this time threatening to post her naked video on the Internet. Narine, however, could not procure the required amount, and in March 2012, she had committed suicide by drinking cyanide.
