YEREVAN. – Departmental inspections in Armenia need to be reduced and their effectiveness shall be increased as much as possible.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Grisha Baghiyan told the abovementioned to reporters, and after Thursday’s Cabinet session.

In his words, it is indispensable to introduce a system of risk-based inspections, which means businesses in the country shall be inspected only if necessary.

Baghiyan added that this also applies to the agriculture ministry agencies, especially the State Service For Food Safety.

“[But] a sensible reduction in inspections will not prevent us from monitoring food safety and quality in the republic,” concluded the deputy minister.
