YEREVAN. – Less than a third of population is aware about the current system of government in Armenia, the survey conducted by Gallup International shows.

The public opinion poll was held in capital city Yerevan and the regions on May 5-13 among 1,105 people.

Asked “Do you know the form of government in Armenia?” 74 percent of respondents said they do, but only 40 percent of them gave the correct answer, said Aram Navasardyan, representative of the Armenian branch of Gallup International.

More than 30 percent of respondents found it difficult to define their attitude towards transition to the parliamentary system of government, while 16 percent said they oppose the changes. The survey shows that 46 percent of respondents support amendments to Constitution, while 38 percent oppose the idea.

Only 45 percent of respondents are aware about draft constitutional reforms.

Gallup International plans to conduct another survey after the final package of constitutional reforms is prepared.
