The State of Río de Janeiro in Brazil on Friday officially recognized the Armenian Genocide, and set April 24 as “Day of Recognition and Remembrance of the Victims of the Armenian Genocide.”

The Governor of Río de Janeiro, Luiz Fernando Pezão, had submitted the respective bill to the state parliament, reported Agencia Prensa Armenia.

Río de Janeiro has become the fourth Brazilian state—after the States of Paraná, Ceará, and São Paulo—to acknowledge the fact of the Armenian Genocide. And several months ago, the Senate of Brazil had adopted a resolution recognizing this tragedy.
