The examination of Armenia’s Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) will last four years, Vahram Petrosyan, General Director of   Armenian Scientific Research Institute for Nuclear Plant Operation “Armatom” told Armenian News – NEWS.am. According to him, the work with the Russian colleagues from “Rusatom Service” CJSC is already underway.

“Work is being carried out not only on the reactor but in the entire plant,” Petrosyan said.

The institute is also examining the 6-month regime of the Armenian NPP operation suspension, planned for 2017. “As earlier [Armenia’s] Energy Minister said, flexible schedule will be selected for the suspension so that the energy system is not greatly impacted. I think the plant will operate in two stages,” Petrosyan said.

The new power unit of the Armenian NPP is planned to be constructed starting from 2018. It will be exploited in 2026. For extending the operation period of the NPP, Armenia signed an agreement with Russia on $270 loan and $30 million grant.
