YEREVAN. - In no European country can you observe a scene, where a small umber of protestors are being controlled by such a large number of policemen, political analyst Hmayak Hovhannisyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am today. He had come to Yerevan’s Republic Square to back the struggle against electricity price hike held by “Stand Up, Armenia” initiative.

“In no democratic European country can you see 500 policemen controlling the peaceful protest of 10 protestors. We have wonderful youth, I always back them and consider their demand just,” he said.

According to Hovhannisyan, when the police restored traffic in Yerevan’s Baghramyan Avenue on July 6, the sit-in participants should have continued their struggle.

“The sit-in participants should have continued their struggle right on July 6. They should have formed a platform, where the politicians struggling for the same idea should have gathered,” he said.

At the moment, members of “Stand up, Armenia” initiative are continuing their disobedience actions, continuously walking across the streets close to the Republic Square.

Several activists again managed to break through the police cordon and move to the center of the square, but the police took them out from there, Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent reports.
