YEREVAN. – A total of 8,148 boys and 7,270 girls were born in Armenia in the first five months of the current year.

Head of the Census and Demography Division at the National Statistical Service, Karine Kuyumjyan, stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Friday.

She added that 113 boys were born per 100 girls, and according to the biological medium, 102 to 106 boys fall to 100 girls in the country.

Kuyumjyan noted that the most popular names given to newborns in Armenia are Nare, for girls, and Davit, for boys.

In the first five months of 2015, the top ten most popular names for newborn girls in the country are Nare, Mari, Maria, Anahit, Mane, Milena, Mariam, Angelina, Ani and Elen, respectively, and the respective top ten for the newborn boys are Davit, Narek, Tigran, Hayk, Aleks, Gor, Arman, Alen, Erik and Artur, correspondingly.
