YEREVAN. – The number of marriages and divorces has dropped in Armenia.

Head of the Census and Demography Division at the National Statistical Service, Karine Kuyumjyan, said the abovementioned at a press conference on Friday.

According to official data, a total of 8,582 marriages were recorded in the country as of July 1 of the current year, as compared to 9,563 in the same period last year. 

The lowest number of marriages was recorded in the Gegharkunik, Syunik and Ararat Provinces, whereas the highest respective indicators were recorded in the Vayots Dzor Province, capital city Yerevan, and in the Aragatsotn, Lori and Kotayk Provinces.  

In addition, a total of 1,900 divorces were recorded in Armenia in the first half of 2015, against the 2,469 divorces in the same time period in 2014.

According to the statistics, the highest percentage of divorces was recorded in the Lori Province, whereas the lowest was in the Tavush and Gegharkunik Provinces.

But there are no statistics regarding the decline in marriages, and the reasons for divorces.
