Shushanik Bakhshyan, obstetrician-gynecologist of Yerevan's “Shengavit” medical centre declined to comment on the opinion that she’s allegedly guilty of the death of maternity patient Meri Margaryan, 26.

“I’ll only utter one sentence. I’m rather sorry for Meri’s death, and I offer my condolences to her relatives. Investigation is underway now, expert examinations have been commissioned; if the expert conclusion finds out the guilty parties, they will be punished,” Bakhshyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

According to her, she had been working as an obstetrician-gynecologist for 20 years, and nothing like that ever happened before. She declined to respond to other questions.

Relatives of Meri Margaryan blame “Shengavit” medical centre doctor Shushanik Bakhshyan for the tragedy. According to the brother of the dead woman, Meri had been running high temperature for several days, but the doctor was calming her down, advising to take paracetamol. The woman was hospitalized at the insistence of her relatives, but she felt worse in the hospital. Then it was decided to move her to the multi-specialized “Erebouni” medical centre, where Meri had Caesarean section, 2 days after which she died. The following day her newborn daughter died as well.

In its statement, “Shengavit” medical centre claims Meri Margaryan didn’t have high temperature and wasn’t complaining of cough. However, according to her relatives, in “Erebouni” medical centre they were told Meri had double pneumonia.
