The first batch of food, which is on the list of banned imports from the European Union (EU), has been destroyed in Russia.

The country burned a pork meat consignment which, according to the Rosselkhoznadzor (Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of the Russian Federation), was imported with false documents, reported Interfax news agency.

Rosselkhoznadzor noted that since the importer could not be found, a decision was made to burn this food, and that this is a commonly accepted way for destroying suspicious products.

As a result of Russia’s decision on destroying products that are on the ban list of EU food that is imported by illegal means, such imports have sharply reduced, reported Rossiyskaya Gazeta daily of Russia.
