The court imposed a fine in the amount of 4,000 somoni (approx. $633) on Dushanbe resident Amir Isayev, 25, for treating his friends with cake on his birthday.

The criminal case was filed against the unemployed Isayev by the prosecutor’s office on the basis of the photos he had posted on his Facebook page. The photos depict him, his friends and the cake.

According to the court, the birthday boy violated Article 8 of the state law entitled "On regulation of traditions and customs in the Republic of Tajikistan," which bans the celebration of birthdays anywhere except in the privacy of the family circle, Interfax reports.

Isayev is now going to appeal the decision of the court.

The aforementioned law was adopted in 2007 upon the initiative of Tajikstan’s President Emomalii Rahmon. It strictly limits the number of guests, dishes and cars at various events.
