YEREVAN. – A quite favorable situation is created in the region in terms of Armenia’s interests.

Ambassador Ara Papyan, who is a political scientist and Director of the Modus Vivendi Center, noted the abovementioned at a press conference on Monday.

In his words, Turkey-West relations have deteriorated to a large extent.

“Turkey, by making use of the fight against the Islamic State terrorist group, fights not solely against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party [(PKK)], but also [against] the Christians in the region,” said Papyan.

In the analyst’s view, aside from internal tensions, there is also foreign tension in Turkey, and which is linked to Syria and Iraq.

Ara Papyan also reflected on Turkey’s early parliamentary election, which is slated for November 1, and stated that nationalist sentiments will rise in the country until then.

“That is, many anti-Armenian statements will be heard,” noted the Modus Vivendi Center director. “Thus, the [majority] Justice and Development Party [(AKP) of Turkey] will attempt to snatch votes from the [country’s] nationalists.

“Therefore, the anti-Armenian rhetoric will intensify in Turkey, until November.”
