The Southern Military District (SMD) of Armenia-based Russian military base has launched the reconstruction of barracks designed for contract soldiers.

The barracks have been prepared for re-equipment since the beginning of the year.

Located in the military town “Big fortress,” the barracks have started to be used as early as in the 18th century.  Due to the construction by high-endurance materials – the famous tuf – the building is in good repair. According to the constructors, after the scheduled reconstruction, the historic building will long serve its purpose without major repairs.

20 sections designed for military specialists are planned to be equipped within the framework of the barrack reconstruction.
