YEREVAN. – Armenian Ombudsman called not to solve disputes by resorting to blows commenting on the case of beating of Air Armenia director Arsen Avetisyan by the bodyguard of Armenia's Football Federation head.

“We took up the matter vigorously but the case was closed at the request of the victim. And we had to stop,” Karen Andreeasyan said after a meeting of the Cabinet on Monday.

Asked whether reconciliation casts doubts, Andreasyan admitted that many people in Armenia do not aspire to protect their own rights.

Arsen Avetisyan’s wife had earlier said that, on August 15, President of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA), Ruben Hayrapetyan, had invited her husband to a meeting at the FFA academy in capital city Yerevan. During the talk, however, Hayrapetyan’s bodyguards had beaten Avetisyan. Subsequently, he was taken to hospital.

According to various sources, Arsen Avetisyan and Ruben Hayrapetyan had argued over money.
