Azerbaijani journalist Khadija Ismayilova was sentenced to 7.5 years in jail, contact.az reported.

The court found her guilty of misappropriation and embezzlement, illegal business, tax evasion, abuse of power.

The prosecutor called the court to sentence Ismayilova to nine years in jail.

Khadija Ismayilova, the loudest critic of the Azerbaijani government, was detained on December 5 in Azerbaijan. She is charged with pushing a person toward committing suicide. If convicted, Ismayilova may face up to seven years in prison.
