On 5 September 1915, plunder of houses and property of forcefully deported Armenians, as well as mass attacks on Armenian women began in Ankara city of the Ottoman Empire.

[Armenian] Doctor Suren Nişanyan, who was from Kayseri, was taken to his native town and executed, despite being seriously ill. Teacher Hovsep Varjabedyan was executed in the town of Bandırma.
