YEREVAN. - Armenia-based “Sinjar” Yezidi national union NGO has opened a school for Yezidi children, where they are taught their native language and Yezidi history, the NGO President Boris Murazi told Armenian News – NEWS.am. He also said the school was opened in August and has 6 pupils.

“The school is located in Yerevan’s Nor Nork district. The courses are attended by children of six different age categories. The classes are held each Sunday. The children are unaware of our history and language, that’s why the courses were organized. Yezidi history is taught by a textbook published by the NGO in Armenian. It’s two months the school has opened, and we already notice changes with the children,” Murazi said.

He also said that prior to the school’s opening, courses for Yezidi children were also organized in Yerevan’s Erebuni community, being attended by roughly 20 children and youth.

“I’m sure that getting educated as active and conscious Yezidis, these children will implement serious changes in our community,” he said.
