YEREVAN. - Armenia is taking measures to raise the awareness level of the population regarding the constitutional reforms through engaging the civil society in that process, German Ambassador to Armenia Matthias Kiesler said at a press-conference today.

Responding to the question on whether the development of a country is related to the form of its governance, the Ambassador, whose country has a parliamentary form of governance, said that every nation and every state should itself choose what form of governance they want to have. “Even within the EU, different countries have different forms of governance. Thus, there are no ideal forms of governance.” Kiesler said.

But, according to the Ambassador, regardless of what decision is taken, it’s important to achieve wide consent in the society.

“The head of Armenia’s Specialist Commission on Constitutional Reforms assured that they are moving in a right direction, and the draft constitutional amendments give quite wide opportunities to the opposition. The fact that the draft is based on all the fundamental human rights has also been a bit forgotten,” Kiesler said.

The Constitutional changes in Armenia provide switching to the parliamentary form of governance.
