YEREVAN. - The President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, on Saturday extended congratulations to President Joachim Gauck, and Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany.

Sargsyan expressed his best wishes on the occasion of the German national holiday, the Reunification Day.

On October 3, Germany marks the German Reunification, or German Unity Day.   

On that day in 1990, the German Democratic Republic (GDR/East Germany) joined the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG/West Germany) to form the reunited nation of Germany, and this day was declared an official national holiday.
