YEREVAN. – Given that Armenia is already a member of the Eurasian Economic Union,Russia will not consider a threat the format of rather limited but multilateral Armenia-EU relations, political analyst Sergey Minasyan believes.

He believes the new document to be signed between Armenia and EU is in fact so-called “light association agreement”.

“This means it will embrace the issues of economic and political bloc. The exception is the provisions that are not in line with Armenia's obligations. The deal will also include the matters of foreign and security policy that will not contradict Armenia's membership in the Eurasian Economic Union and CSTO,” Minasyan added.

Referring to the possible reaction of Russia, the political scientist said: “I do not think that at this point there would be some serious concerns on the part of Russia. It should also be noted that Russia itself is interested in finding new angles of cooperation with the EU. And Armenia's example may become quite a good option to speak, at least theoretically, about political or economic synchronization between Eurasian Union and European Union.”
