YEREVAN. - Lori Province Development Fund will be established in Armenia, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan said today at the consultation with Armenia’s Lori province governor Arthur Nalbandyan and representatives of the regional administration.  According to him, announcement on the establishment of the Fund will be made within two weeks, the Fund aiming to develop the priority spheres of the given region.

According to the press-service of the President, referring to the priority areas of Lori province, the President said: “I think the sphere of light industry in your region is developing normally, and it’s necessary to introduce certain means and involve new people here.  I think we will be able to solve this issue in a short period of time.”

Sargsyan also referred to the issues in the sphere of healthcare: “I certainly want to underscore the importance of development related to the social sphere of infrastructures. The issues on the construction of a new hospital and maternity clinic are utterly important.”

The President especially stressed the issue of tourism development in Lori, which, according to him, “has all the prerequisites.” “These are the historic and cultural landmarks, as well as the good roads and special people,” Sargsyan said.

By the end of the consultation, Sargsyan gave a number of orders on discussing the possibilities to re-launch Vanadzor-Khimprom CJSC and clear the wage arrears of its employees by December 15.  

The President also ordered corresponding officials to discuss the opportunities of granting exemptions to the small and medium businesses for opening new vacancies and promoting export, as well as draw out program proposals for the Lori Province Development Fund.

Apart from this, Sargsyan ordered to study and present to the government the program proposals on tourism development in Lori, considering the region’s historic and cultural heritage and rich natural resources.

The regional administration has also been ordered to provide comprehensive assistance to the Vanadzor Technology Center and the work on forming educational and innovation environment round it.
