Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II made veiled anti-Armenian statements at the meeting with the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

at the meeting the issues on the service of the Georgian bishop in Azerbaijan and David Gareja monastery complex in Georgia were discussed, Apsny reports.

The Patriarch said that there are over 300 mosques in Georgia, and thus perhaps the Christians in Azerbaijan must be in the same situation.

“Of course, there are issues which must be solved. For instance, the Russian Orthodox Church has its own bishops and it’s desirable for the Geogian Church to also have its own one. Of great significance is the monastery complex in Sagarejo; three of the monasteries in David Gareja complex are in the territory of Azerbaijan. This issue may be solved later. We are doing our best to maintain peace in the Caucasus, but this isn’t always the case. We are concerned over the fact that the [principle of] territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and Georgia is violated. We hope that the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and Georgia will be re-established,” the Patriarch said.
