Armenia’s PM Hovik Abarahmyan paid a working visit to Armenia’s Syunik province today.

The PM’s visit launched with the Meghri Regional Medical Center in Syuink’s town of Meghri, which is modernized in the framework of the World Bank’s (WB) Health System Modernization Project 

Abrahamyan toured the medical center and got acquainted with the process of the construction work. The PM was briefed on the different infrastructure repair and installation work. Currently, the process of providing modern medical equipment, furniture and items to the medical center is underway. Overall, roughly 1 bln 618 mln AMD investment has been made to the Meghri Regional Medical Center, out of which 385.2 bln (24 percent) were from Armenia’s governmental funds and 1 bln 233 mln AMD (76 percent) from WB funds.   

The PM’s next stop was the province’s Agarak town, where he attended the opening of the renovated art school. Abrahamyan toured the school and got familiar with the work. Agarak’s art school was renovated due to the co-funding of the Armenian Social Investment Fund, Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine CJSC and the Municipality of Agarak. The art school, which has 208 pupils, has been entirely reequipped and is provided with corresponding specialists (30 teachers) and musical instruments.

In the framework of the working visit, the PM also had a meeting with the administration of Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine CJSC. The heads of the company presented to Abrahamyan the combine’s development programs and noted that there were neither redundancies in the staff nor reductions in salaries despite the price fluctuations of base metals in the international market.

Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine CJSC administration asked the PM to support the company in the current financial and economic situation to keep up the same progress rate of the work. Hovik Abarhamyan said that the field of mining industry plays an important role in the development of economy, and the Armenian government is ready to discuss and, when possible, provide support so that the combine’s regular work isn’t disrupted.

The PM also met with the local residents of Meghri, Agarak, Kapan and Sisian towns and got familiar with their problems and issues demanding immediate solutions.
