The Armenian Genocide resolution submitted for discussion by The Green Party leader Cem Özdemir wasn’t put to vote in German Bundestag.

After the stormy debates and Özdemir’s ardent speech, during which Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel was also present, it was decided not to put the resolution to vote, but return it to its author for reformulating the document and submitting it in a form of a joint inter-faction resolution agreed with all the parliamentary political forces.

“The representatives of all Christian churches – Armenian Apostolic, Assyrian and Syrian – have gathered here now. They are all united by one wish: They want all the factions to take responsibility after 100 years and formulate three important points. First, what happened in the Ottoman Empire 100 years ago was a Genocide and should be called like that. Second, the Germans must admit their share of fault as an ally of the Ottoman Turkey during the WWI.  Third, this burden should be taken off the shoulders of  the Genocide survivors’ descendants so that the Armenian-Turkish border can be opened,” Özdemir said.
