The European Union (EU) has repeatedly expressed support for the efforts by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, and stressed that there is no alternative to a pacific settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian told Kommersant daily newspaper of Russia.

Reflecting on the recent statement by Federica Mogherini—High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission—that the Karabakh conflict has no military solution and that she supports the Madrid Principles and the Minsk Group activities, the Armenian FM noted that Mogherini has once again confirmed this position.

“We [i.e. the Armenian party to the conflict] have always highly appreciated the efforts by the Minsk Group co-chairs,” Nalbandian said. “Unfortunately, one of the conflicting parties [i.e. Azerbaijan] has another view.”

As per the Armenian FM, the Karabakh conflict is the unique case when countries like Russia, the US, and France have developed a common approach toward the settlement of this conflict.

“The [conflict settlement] negotiations have no alternative,” Edward Nalbandian added. “And we will exert joint efforts with the co-chairs toward an exclusively peaceful settlement of the problem.”
