STEPANAKERT. – In the early morning hours on Tuesday, the adversary used Smerch “whirlwind" heavy multiple rocket launcher system at the Line of Contact between the Karabakh-Azerbaijani opposing forces. 

Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned the about aforesaid from a statement released by the press service of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh) Ministry of Defense.

“The aggressive actions unleashed by Azerbaijan continued also tonight,” the statement specifically reads. “Day by day increasing the caliber of weapons used, the adversary used Smerch multiple reactive rocket system, in the [late] night of April 4 and [early] morning of [April] 5, in a southerly direction of the frontline.

“In the same period, the adversary continued shelling peaceful [Karabakh] settlements and military bases, actively using unmanned aerial vehicles all along the Line of Contact between the Karabakh-Azerbaijani opposing forces, one of which was destroyed by the DA [i.e. the NKR Defense Army].”

The situation at the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone dramatically escalated in the early morning hours on April 2. From regular shootings and frequent sabotage-reconnaissance attempts, Azerbaijan switched to large-scale attacks all along the Karabakh-Azerbaijan Line of Contact, using a variety of weaponry as well as artillery, armored vehicles, and air force. Both sides have suffered casualties.
