YEREVAN. – The chiefs of general staffs of the armed forces of Armenia and Azerbaijan met on Tuesday in Moscow, where a cease-fire agreement was reached.

The Minister of Defense of Armenia, Seyran Ohanyan, stated the aforesaid at Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting.

“They [i.e. the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Defense Army] are ready for preparing today and not solely for preparing, but also to prevent further actions, [and] to respond to any action by the adversary [i.e. Azerbaijan],” Ohanyan added.

The situation at the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone dramatically escalated in the early morning hours on April 2. From regular shootings and frequent sabotage-reconnaissance attempts, Azerbaijan switched to large-scale attacks all along the Karabakh-Azerbaijan Line of Contact, using a variety of weaponry as well as artillery, armored vehicles, and air force. Both sides have suffered casualties.

As of Tuesday at noon, however, the situation along the Line of Contact between the Karabakh-Azerbaijani opposing forces has been relatively stable.
