The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov gave an interview to the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter (published on the website of the Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry) in which he told that nothing has changed for Russia, despite the permanent assurances that Eastern Partnership as usual will not become a geopolitical project for territorial acquisitions and reduction of the Russian influence in those territories. Therefore, Russia will not cooperate in that context but will not sit "without doing a stroke.”

Reminding that it was Sweden and Poland who brought in an idea of the Eastern Partnership, Lavrov noted that the program seemed to be a right one. Russia was invited to join the program, but to the inquiry about the conditions, the country received a police answer alluding that everything there is lead to the resolutions of Brussel. According to Lavrov, the Russian Ministry suggested to work somehow differently -- to separate projects in different countries and see if the EU, Russia, and the host country can work together, but did not receive any suggestions. As for the Eastern Partnership, Lavrov says that in spite of the promises that it will not become a geopolitical project for territorial acquisitions, the reality has  not changed. Therefore, Russia will not cooperate in that context but will not sit "without doing a stroke.” In that regard, he explained, there will not be any  businesses.  Instead, they will have equal talks as equal partners do.

Lavrov is sure that the current period will not last long , since they [the EU and Russia] are doomed to live together.  Therefore, when the European Union becomes mature enough to carry on respectful dialogues without making any ultimatums and using coercion, Russia will be only glad for those changes.
