The US urges the sides to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to come to the negotiating to reach a settlement.

Mark Toner, Deputy Spokesperson of the US Department of State, stated about the aforesaid commenting on the bill regarding Armenia’s recognition of the independence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh), and which will be debated in the Armenian parliament.

“The United States, along with the rest of the international community, does not recognize Nagorno-Karabakh,” Toner said. “Nagorno-Karabakh’s final status will only be resolved in the context of a comprehensive settlement, so we urge the sides to come to the negotiating table in good faith in order to reach a settlement that achieves those goals.

The US State Department representative added that the main principles that the United States supports for the resolution of this conflict are non-use of force, self-determination, and territorial integrity.

“But we’ve also very much said that all of this needs to be worked out within the context of the [OSCE] Minsk group,” Mark Toner added. “There is a process here, and that process needs to be returned to by all sides.”
