Polish Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz stated about a threat from Russian side in an interview with Corriere della Sera.
According to him, only the countries bordering with Russia “realize the full seriousness of the situation”. Poland is “subjected to Russian provocations every day,” including through violations of military space, increase of military presence in Kaliningrad and deployment of Iskander missile system, he noted.
The created fast response forces of about 5,000 servicemen are insufficient for strengthening the western borders, Macierewicz said, urging NATO to allocate at least one brigade in Poland, Gazeta reports.
Besides, the Minister noted that Moscow “speaks of its wish to attack the Baltic countries and Poland”. To the journalist’s objections that the Russian authorities never made such statements, Macierewicz said that Russia “threatened Lithuania,” while the Deputy Speaker of State Duma noted that the “Red Army can reach Warsaw in a week”.
