The floods and landslides caused by Cyclone Roanu, which hit the coast of southern Bangladesh Saturday, have claimed the lives of twenty people.

The cyclone hit the coast after midday local time. The wind was as strong as 88 kilometers per hour. The maximal height of the waves reached about two meters. Before the cyclone, the authorities evacuated about 500,000 people from coastal regions, instead of the two million announced earlier.

Currently the weather is improving, RIA Novosti reports.

The local meteorological service has warned against the possibility of new landslides in the hilly regions in the country’s southeastern part.
