The central streets of Sukhumi were flooded due to heavy rains on Tuesday, Interfax reported.
Chief of Municipal management of the city administration Elena Atepina told journalist that heavy rains in mountains and the overflowing rivers became the reason of flooding of Sukhumi.
She also added that the Suhumka River and several other rivers burst their banks. The second driveway of the Titova street, and the whole Lakoba street are flooded. Municipal services of the city together with the Ministry of Emergency Situations open and clean sewer lattices, also open water exits to the sea.
At the same time, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic noted that the storm drainage cannot cope with the flow of water on the outskirts of the city, which flooded the first floors of several private houses.
According to Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations of Abkhazia Tigran Delibaltyan, accidents in connection with flooding of the city have not been recorded yet.
Work of public transport on some routes is temporarily complicated.
