Thailand's Department of Marine Resources has banned tourists to visit Khai Nok, Khai Nui, Khai Nai islands, which are a few miles away from the eastern coast of Phuket island, reports RIA Novosti. The decision to demolish all the facilities related to the tourism and close the islands was made on May 19.

The Khai islands are closed for tourists for an unknown period of time. More than 80 percent of the coral reef in those islands was subjected to intense erosion due to the inflow of tourists. Water pollution has been caused due to the formation of necessary infrastructure for tourism in accordance with touristic needs, which has led to serious changes in the ecosystem and caused destruction of corals, reports the department.
