YEREVAN. – The Ministry of Agriculture inspected the agricultural markets of Armenia during the past ten days, and it did not come across tomatoes from Turkey.

The Minister of Agriculture, Sergo Karapetyan, noted the aforesaid during his report at Wednesday’s joint session of the National Assembly committees, and regarding the “performance” of the 2015 State Budget of the country.

In his words, about 192 tons of tomatoes were imported to Armenia since the beginning of the year, and some of them came from Turkey; but the last consignment was imported in mid-March.

“We [i.e. Armenia] haven’t had generally imported tomatoes for two months,” Karapetyan said. “This became possible thanks to the modern greenhouses that were built [in Armenia], about 100 hectares in size, in the past one to two years. Their activities enable to replace imports, and export more from our country.”
