Today the Red Planet is approaching to Earth more than it has done in 11 years. Mars is 76 million kilometers away from our planet, reports Space.com.

The ‘rendezvous’ of Mars and Earth will not be over by that. The planets will be relatively close to each in the next two weeks, and only on June 12, the distance between them will start growing rapidly. This is the closest distance between the Earth and Mars in the history of observations. In August of 2003, the planets were approached by 55.7 million kilometers, which is probably an absolute record registered in the existence of the civilization. In July of 2018, Mars might be almost as close to Earth, as it is today.

The closest approach of Earth and Mars, as the magazine's current employees say, will allow amateur astronomers and professionals to get new photos of the red planet and view more precise details, which previously were unnoticeable.

Independent observers today will be able to see Mars in the constellation of the Scorpion. Mars will be visible not only with binoculars but also with the naked eye. If the weather is not good enough today to observe Mars, anyone who wants can go online where there is a broadcasting conducted by astronomers from Slooh observatory.  Next time Mars will be approaching the Earth is 2018. At that time the red planet will come even closer to the Earth.
