YEREVAN. – President Serzh Sargsyan and First Lady Rita Sargsyan, together with the family members and close friends of the late Ofelya Hambardzumyan and her fans, on Thursday bid their last farewell to this renowned Armenian folk singer and People’s Artist of the Armenia (PHOTOS).

The people’s flow toward Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall, in capital city Yerevan, did not stop, the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter informed from the scene.

Political and social figures, artists, and numerous ordinary people came to the concert hall say their goodbye to the loved singer.

Ofelya Hambardzumyan passed away Monday at the age of 91.

Hambardzumyan was born in Yerevan, on January 9, 1925.

Ever since 1944, she was a soloist at the Ensemble of Folk Instruments of the Radio and Television of Armenia.

In 2011, Ofelya Hambardzumyan was awarded the Mesrop Mashtots Medal, in recognition of her great services rendered to the Armenian art of music.
