YEREVAN. – It is indispensable to punish Azerbaijan’s president and all the leaders who are preparing for a new war.

Karabakh War veteran, Soviet military commander, and Armenian political and military figure Norat Ter-Grigoryants told the aforementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In his words, these individuals need to be brought to account at international court.

“It’s not at all desirable to meet with that crook [Azerbaijani president] Ilham Aliyev,” Ter-Grigoryants said reflecting on Monday’s meeting in Saint Petersburg, Russia, between the presidents of Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan. “There is absolutely no need to extend one’s hand to the enemy who says it will destroy you. What negotiations? About what? When did Karabakh belong to Azerbaijan?”

The Armenian political and military figure stated that the Azerbaijani state was established under the pressure of Turkey and the assistance by its armed forces, and that a Bolshevik power was established there.

“And on June 5, 1921, this power took Karabakh from Soviet Armenia and gave it to Azerbaijan,” he added. “Azerbaijan is the successor of the first Musavat Republic [of Azerbaijan], during which Karabakh was not within Azerbaijan at all. In that case, what do they [i.e. Azerbaijan] want? They say [it’s] their land. Since when?”

Norat Ter-Grigoryants noted that Armenians have no need to open fire.

“We have no need to occupy a territory,” he said. “All those seven regions are Karabakh; ancient Armenia. Can’t they [i.e. the Azerbaijanis] read history?”
