Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan have agreed to increase the number of OSCE observers in the zone of Karabakh conflict, reads the joint statement issued Monday after the trilateral meeting of the Armenian, Azerbaijani and Russian presidents in St. Petersburg.

The Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents confirmed the agreements reached in the latest Armenian-Azerbaijani summit in Vienna on May 16, which are aimed at stabilizing the situation in the conflict zone and creating an atmosphere contributing to the progress in the peace process, the official Kremlin website reports.

“For this purpose they specifically agreed to increase the number of international observers in the conflict zone. They expressed satisfaction with the ceasefire regime maintained on the Line of Contact recently. Detailed exchange of views on the essential aspects of the settlement took place. The heads of states agreed on a range of issues, whose solution will allow to create conditions for the progress in the Nagoron-Karabakh conflict settlement,” the statement reads.

The presidents stressed the significance of their regular contacts over the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and agreed to continue them in this format in addition to the work of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, who were invited to the final part of the meeting in St. Petersburg.
