The summit on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in St. Petersburg created a favorable environment for further progress in the political process, said Matthew Bryza, former US Co-Chair to the OSCE Minsk Group and the former assisted on the South Caucasus issues to the Secretary of State, to Trend.

According to him, no one expected that the meeting would bring any global changes or success in the conflict resolution. The meeting reinforced the results that had been achieved in Vienna on May 16. It was decided to increase the number of the OSCE observers.

Bryza also said that by participating in that meeting the Russian President Vladimir Putin wanted to promote his image of a peacemaker with an aim to impact on the EU to cancel sanctions against Russia set over the Ukrainian crisis. Apart from discussing the reasons, Bryza  evaluated Putin's participation as positive, since the meeting was held within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.

On June 20 in St. Petersburg there was held meeting of the Armenia, Russian, and Azerbaijani presidents with a participation of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs.
