YEREVAN. -- The Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan today has met with the President of the National Bank of Argentina Carlos Melconian.

Serzh Sargsyan welcomed Carlos Melconianand congratulated him on his appointment as President of the National Bank of Argentina. Serzh Sargsyan noted that in Armenia everyone  responds proudly to the achievements of their compatriots living abroad, since their achievements bring honor and good reputation to the whole Armenian nation and contribute to strengthening bilateral relations.

Serzh Sargsyan stressed the importance of the Argentinean Armenian community, who helped to establishing a high level of relations between Armenia and Argentina and among many notable personalities mentioned the contribution of the well-known businessman Eduardo Eurnekian. Serzh Sargsyan expressed a hope that the visit of the President of the Argentine National Bank will further expand the cooperation between banking systems of Armenia and Argentina.

Carlos Melconian passed warm greetings to the President of Armenia from the President of Argentina Mauricio Macri  and expressed his great desire and readiness to reinforce relations between  Armenia and Argentina.  During the meeting Serzh Sargsyan highly appreciated the significant contribution of the Argentine authorities to the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

Serzh Sargsyan and the President of the National Bank of Argentina drew a special attention to the need of intensification of trade and economic ties in the context of Argentina-Armenia cooperation. They agreed that the National Bank of Argentina may have a significant role in that issue.

Carlos Melconian noted that his visit to Armenia is important not only from the professional view point   but is also very emotional, since he has made a  visit to the country of his ancestors, from where they found a shelter in remote Argentina, after the Armenian Genocide had taken place.
